We are proud to take part in the first edition of Québec Criminology Week, which will take place from March 15 to 21, 2026.
This thematic week aims to showcase criminology in all its dimensions and to highlight the contribution of various stakeholders to the understanding, prevention, and resolution of issues related to crime and social justice.
We invite you to visit the website and to propose an activity that could contribute to this shared mission.

Monday, March 16, 5:00–7:00 PM
Librairie Port de tête
222 Avenue Mont-Royal E #269, Montréal, QC H2T 1P5
The International Centre for Comparative Criminology is organizing a roundtable discussion, followed by a cocktail reception, dedicated to criminal sociology. This discussion will explore a fundamental paradox: why are our societies simultaneously structured to combat crime while also organized in ways that facilitate certain forms of it—whether through tax avoidance, opaque corporate practices, or gray areas where private interests, public policy, and regulatory frameworks intersect without always correcting one another.
The discussion will examine how institutional, economic, cultural, and socio-penal mechanisms may create criminal opportunities while maintaining ambitions of control and prevention. It will also include a reflection on the effects of public policies on the trajectories of young people involved in protection and justice systems, highlighting how age norms, intervention frameworks, and organizational structures can sometimes generate vulnerabilities or unintended forms of exclusion. Related issues such as corruption, norm production, and the sometimes unexpected effects of public policies on the evolution of illicit markets will also be addressed.
Wednesday, March 18, 5:00–7:00 PM
Room C-1017–02
Carrefour des arts et des sciences
3150 Jean-Brillant Street, Montréal, QC H3T 1N8
This event will feature a screening of an episode from the television series The Detectives, followed by a discussion with its producer and a panel of invited experts. The conversation will explore the realities of criminal investigation by bringing together media, professional, and scientific perspectives, while reflecting on contemporary issues in criminal investigation.
