Abstract

Studies on the community reentry of individuals convicted of a sexual offence have primarily focused on preventing sexual recidivism through correctional supervision and support interventions. However, most individuals convicted of a sexual offence who serve shorter periods of incarceration receive neither supervision nor support upon returning to the community.

Using a cohort of 1,054 young adults sentenced to shorter periods of incarceration in Quebec, analyses were conducted to determine whether there were contextual factors associated with reincarceration that were specific to individuals convicted of a sexual offence (n = 69). The findings raise questions about the precarious circumstances surrounding young adults’ return to the community, regardless of their criminal history.
