Compulsive sexual behaviors (CSBs) research has expanded significantly over the past two decades, culminating in the inclusion of Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder in the 11th edition of the International Classification of Diseases. However, most prior work relied on simplistic designs and often lacked high-quality measurements and theoretical integration. These studies typically used homogeneous, relatively small samples from WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, Democratic) countries, leading to knowledge gaps concerning culturally, sexually, and gender-diverse individuals.
The overarching objective of this presentation is to offer insights into CSBs from a cross-cultural perspective, considering gender- and sexual-orientation-related differences. It will present findings from recent large-scale, cross-cultural, and AI-based studies, emphasizing assessment issues, risk and protective factors, and potential outcomes. The presentation aims to deepen theoretical understanding of CSBs and identify potential targets for prevention and intervention.
