This presentation focuses on the book Intelligence and State Surveillance: An International Perspective, which provides an in-depth exploration of the evolving practices of intelligence in the age of new technologies and mass surveillance. It examines how intelligence services have adapted to transnational threats, cyberspace, and the rise of artificial intelligence. The growing interconnections between the public and private sectors, as well as international police cooperation, are analyzed through case studies, including post-2001 counterterrorism efforts. The author highlights the normative and legal frameworks governing these activities while addressing key ethical dilemmas—such as privacy infringement and the erosion of civil liberties. The book offers a comprehensive reflection on the contemporary challenges of intelligence and security within democratic societies.
