Abstract:

The peer-review process is a central element of academic publishing. For authors, it is an unavoidable — and at times frustrating — step, as reviewers represent the main hurdle before publication. Interestingly, little attention is given to those at the core of this process: the reviewers themselves.

This workshop aims to demystify the role and nature of peer review. After a brief overview of review models, the session will dive into the practical aspects of evaluation. In the absence of formal training, many scholar-authors become reviewers for others’ manuscripts and face a series of questions: How does one conduct a good review? What aspects should be addressed? What kind of recommendations should be made? Should one accept multiple review requests? Which manuscripts should one agree to evaluate?

Drawing on the experience of CICC researchers, this one-hour workshop will offer practical insights for both established researchers and students who have either conducted reviews or are preparing to submit manuscripts and wish to better understand the peer-review process.
