Personality disorders among offenders evoke both fascination and concern. In criminal cases, we often hear about antisocial personality, narcissism, and of course, the infamous “psychopathy.” Between psychology, justice, and popular culture, these disorders are widely represented—often in a caricatured way. But where does the media image end and clinical reality begin? Do these associations really hold up? And what does research actually tell us?
To answer these questions, Jean Proulx and Sabrina Kimberley Hallard will explain what personality disorders are, how they relate to criminal behavior, and the clinical challenges involved in treatment and rehabilitation.
Guests:
Jean Proulx, Full Professor at the School of Criminology, Université de Montréal, clinical psychologist, and regular researcher at the Institut Philippe-Pinel of Montreal, as well as at the International Centre for Comparative Criminology (CICC).
Sabrina Kimberley Hallard, Criminologist and psychotherapist, Institut national de psychiatrie légale Philippe-Pinel.
