Quantitative research on incarcerated women remains scarce, particularly studies examining the links between vulnerabilities, early-life adversities, and delinquent trajectories. This study, conducted with 100 incarcerated women in French-speaking Belgium through face-to-face questionnaires, aims to document the prevalence of these factors, analyze their interrelationships, and explore their influence on certain offenses committed. Factor analyses identified four vulnerability factors (mental health disorders, substance use, socio-economic precarity, and dysfunctional intimate relationships) and two adversity factors (early familial adversities and victimization). The results reveal a high prevalence of multiple vulnerabilities and experienced adversities, which are significantly associated with certain offenses, particularly physical violence against persons and drug trafficking. These findings highlight the central role of traumatic experiences and multiple vulnerabilities in the emergence of delinquent behavior, advocating for integrated, gender-sensitive interventions that take into account the life histories of incarcerated women to prevent engagement in delinquent trajectories or the risk of recidivism.
