This article presents a qualitative analysis of the alignment between Quebec’s specialized tribunal on sexual and intimate partner violence, and the principles of therapeutic jurisprudence. Framed within a trauma-informed perspective, the study assesses the extent to which this court can help reduce victims’ secondary victimization through four key dimensions : empowerment, legal actors’ attitudes, procedural preparation and psychosocial support. A thematic analysis of a documentary corpus, including legislative texts, scientific literature and grey literature, reveals that while certain innovative measures of the specialized tribunal are consistent with therapeutic jurisprudence, significant limitations remain. The absence of reforms to the applicable law, ambiguity surrounding several modalities, the lack of complaint mechanisms and the non-binding nature of certain measures all contribute to undermining the tribunal’s full potential. The study thus highlights both the possible benefits for victims, as well as challenges related to the tribunal’s future operationalization, so as to more adequately meet victims’ needs.
