In Quebec, as in the rest of Canada, most reported cases of online child sexual exploitation involve offences related to child sexual abuse and exploitation material (CSEM), including accessing, possessing, distributing, or producing such material. This trend poses significant challenges for practitioners, requiring adaptations to assessment and intervention practices to better serve individuals who have committed CSEM offences. However, little is known about the criminogenic and clinical needs of this population. This study aimed to compare individuals who have committed exclusively CSEM offences with individuals who have committed contact sexual offences against minors on a range of characteristics related to general criminogenic needs, offence-specific criminogenic needs, and responsivity factors. It also aimed to determine which of these three components of the Risk-Need-Responsivity (RNR) model best differentiated the two groups. The sample included 266 adult men (M = 43.6 years) recruited from specialized treatment centres, including 113 with exclusive CSEM offences and 153 with at least one contact sexual offence against minors. Logistic regression analyses indicated that differences between the two groups were primarily explained by responsivity factors and, to a lesser extent, by offence-specific criminogenic needs. Individuals who have committed exclusively CSEM offences exhibited lower levels of extraversion and were more likely to report anxiety symptoms and elevated sexual preoccupation. These findings highlight the importance of considering responsivity factors alongside offence-specific criminogenic needs to better tailor assessment and intervention for men who have committed CSEM offences.
