Although sexual compulsivity is implicated in the trajectory of certain sex offenders (SO) (Johnson et Knight, 2000 ; Lussier et al., 2005, 2007), it remains unclear whether it relates to the experience of sexuality in general. As few studies have examined its link with healthy sexuality, current understanding of its expression and interaction with various aspects of sexuality remains limited. The objectives of the study were therefore : (a) to compare sexual compulsivity among male SO, non-sexual offenders (NSO) and non-offenders from the general population (GP) ; (b) to explore its relationship with the sexual self-concept and sexual fantasies in SO ; and (c) to verify the presence of distinct profiles of sexual compulsivity and dispositions among SO. Participants were adult males : 97 SO, 27 NSO and 237 GP. The results of the analyses show that based on sexual compulsivity, SO do not differ from the control groups, though they are distributed into three different profiles. The profiles are characterized by the presence of dispositions that are : favourable to the experience of healthy sexuality, unfavourable to this experience, or problematic. These results are discussed in relation to their implications for research and intervention.
